Hi Everyone!

I hope all is well with you and thank you for a great start to our 2012 season…. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

In this post you will find the following……………

General rehearsal notes

Rehearsal schedule for this Saturday

Program order (as of 1/10/12)

Please utilize the recordings in the members only section as a practice tool if you are unfamiliar with some of the works we are performing. If you are having trouble finding or getting these clips to work, please let me know.

Rehearsal notes for this coming Saturday’s rehearsal (1/14/12)

We need to start establishing a core center to the overall sound of the ensemble. Therefore we will be striving to develop a better sense of tuning and overall pitch both within each section and from player to player. Please come prepared with notes and rhythms so that we can focus on getting to the next level as far as this concept is concerned.

Celebration Overture is the primary piece that needs the most attention

In general there needs to be separation in most accented and some of the fuller tenuto figures. This is due to the mid to lower scoring and thick harmony that is presented

The 6/8 section will be moderato — All notes should be flowing and moving forward toward each “big” beat

HARMONY – one of the most important concepts to bring out in this work is the thick harmony that presents itself. If you have color notes, bring them out.

BRASS – In general, I would like the brass to be strong but still maintain a dark sound. The trombones are at times a bit too much. Please take a little off the bite and edge when playing in the forte and fortissimo sections.

WOODWINDS – The overall approach to balance and sound should be full and dark in the opening and closing sections. The center 6/8 section needs to flow and soloists should always be the primary leading sound. In general the low reeds can play out.

PERCUSSION – all instruments should be driving and dry with precise attention to accented versus non accented notes.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE — 1/14/12

9:00 – 9:20 Elegy for a Young American

9:20 – 9:40 Beautiful City

9:40 – 10:00 I Dream a World
